Choosing the right preschool for your child

Choosing the right preschool for your children can be a daunting task. What suits one child may not suit the other. Consider the following features of a preschool before selecting one for your toddler. You can discuss about different preschools with your friends and neighbours. You can also search the internet for information on what kind of preschool will suit your child.

Find out about the teachers who are going to teach your child. Most good schools hire teachers with good credentials. Well trained preschool teachers have taken a course in preschool teaching and how to handle nurture young children. A well trained preschool teacher knows how to nurture and train young minds to make them ready to learn. They enjoy spending time with young children and are enthusiastic about teaching children. A good preschool teacher forms a bond with the children and their families. She shows love and care for the children.

See carefully what sorts of activities are arranged for the children. A good preschool has a busy classroom, with children engaged in different kinds of activities to learn new concepts. Children use building blocks, solve puzzles and play with crayons and drawing books to learn new concepts. The daily activities in the school should group activities as well as individual activity where a child learns to explore his individual personality.

Go to your child’s preschool to see how your child’s classroom looks. Is it a riot of colours or does it look very drab and dull. A child’s classroom should engage the children and enhance his curiosity. He should become eager to learn new concepts. The walls of the classroom should show children’s drawings and writing work. This will encourage your child to make his own artwork and write. The teacher can use props to teach new concepts or vocabulary to the children. They can take children on field trips to encourage them and introduce new concepts. You can find out about the school by calling up the school and talking to the teacher, better still visit the school and spend time observing the teacher and the school activities.

Make sure your child is attending a class that is suitable for your age. Don’t assume that just because your three-year old is smart he can attend the school with four-year olds.

When selecting a preschool for your child, decide on your priorities. Do you want a school that is near to your house or you want a school that is good no matter how far it is. Do you want the school curriculum to include activities like dancing and story telling? Make a list of the features you are looking for in a preschool before you set out to look for a suitable preschool for your child. Making a checklist will help you in selecting the right school.

Ask your family members and friends about the schools their kids are attending and how the school is? Also go online and research on the school. The preschool your child is attending can have a very important impact on his overall personality, so choose your child’s school carefully.
